9RUN6 goes beyond doing our thing. We like to support outside events that do things for the community as well. This is why we are showcasing a special upcoming event that is put together by one of our very own members, Katie. If you are friends with her on Facebook or follow her on Twitter, you have probably seen her post about an upcoming run she is hosting in August … here is a little bit more info about what it is all about …
Runners that partake in the August 21st 5k run can expect the unsupported and unofficial run to have a lot of fun with some super awesome people. This event is limited to 30 people who preregister, will earn an awesome medal at the end of the run.
Originally the event was promoted as a virtual run, but because there are extra medals Katie thought hosting this event would create for some further support for the California Speech and Hearing Association – District 2 (CSHA) Foundation, which is a 501(c)3 Charity.
Katie shared with us that, “The run benefits Better Speech and Hearing Night for children and adults with communication disorders and their families to enjoy a free game with either the Sacramento River Cats or the Sacramento Republic FC. CHSA also provides public education on communication disorders as well as various local agencies where individuals can receive speech and language disorders”. Approximately 40 million people in America have some sort of a communication disorder, chances are you know someone who either had or currently has a communication disorder. Over the past 4 years more than 2,000 individuals and their families have enjoyed Better Speech and Hearing Night! Katie hopes that through these types of events to “get 2,000 more!”.
