OMG THEY KILLED KENNY …

Okay no one really died, but we did have a new face show up to the workout this morning, who is named Kenny. After getting called out last week on the blog he did show up today. He even made the mistake of committing to next Wednesday’s workout.

The workout today involved a deck of cards and a game called WAR. Yup today’s folks went head to head in the workout with the cards deciding the number of reps. If you won in the round you did 10 push-ups, 10 squat jumps and 10 v-ups … if you lost then it was 20 of each. However, the catch was this … each consecutive lose added 5 more of each movement to your total … Poor Ethan aka the ogre of the group ended up totaling like 40 of each at one point.IMG_5432

Between each round a short run around a number of trees was incorporated. Kind of like this one ..

At the end of the workout we welcomed Kenny with “the tunnel”.

Today Was Epic …

Update: (10/3/2015) A link to all of the awesome photos have been added to this blog post (scroll to the bottom) which were all taken by @momentscaptured11 on Instagram.

First let’s address what happened on Wednesday … we had a member go down … yup Brian aka RUN_BMC went down and is now out for about 2 weeks due to a sprained ankle … here is how it went down.

So we started our workout like a couple of champs with the good old Deck of Cards workout where folks test their luck by selecting a card out of a stack of two decks. Each card’s value determined the number of push-ups, sit-ups and squats. Pull a Joker and you double the value of your next card. Each pull of a card was also followed by a lap around the West Lawn.

Today’s workout was even more epic because he had a real deal photographer come out and shoot some photos … those photos will be posted on our 9RUN6 Facebook within the next couple of days.

Have a kick ass weekend!

Yesterday (Tuesday, October 27) Kenny aka The Bearded Wonder, was guilty of saying “I’ll come to the workout tomorrow.” Apparently, he slept past his alarm this morning. Maybe hey didn’t really sleep past his alarm, maybe he just said screw it …

So to remind him, we left a stack of reminders on his work computer this morning.

Old Skooling It

6:25AM rolls around and where are you? Probably being a lazy ass and still in bed, while the cool peeps of 9RUN6 are working their asses off at the west steps of the Capitol.

This morning was pretty f’ing awesome as we broke out a new workout that had elements of jazzercise and those stupid line drills that your high school PE coach probably made you do at some point during your teenage years. The workout was simple but left our body parts screaming by the end of the 30 minute workout.

The workout consisted of 50 push-ups followed by a set of line drills from the 10th Street sidewalk all the way to the west steps. Then came along 50 sit ups followed by another set of line drills. To close off this first part of the workout we did 50 squats with another set of line drills.

Then we moved onto the bench area of the 10th Street side, where we did 100 step ups (switching our lead foot after 50), followed by 100 dips then closed off the entire workout with 100 jumping jacks.

Yup, today’s workout had some elements of some old school moves but had us blasting our muscles and smiling at the end.

Check out some photos from today’s workout on our Facebook.com/9RUN6 page.

You’re having too much fun out there

Sunday was the Urban Cow Half Marathon here in Sacramento. For some it is a race they have trained for, for others it is a race that has been used as a training run for the California International Marathon (CIM) in December. While many people run for different reasons and purposes, there is one common connector when it comes to running … YOU F’ING CHOSE IT! Running didn’t pick you, you picked it! You signed up for the race, you buy the shoes, you are the one who committed to getting out and doing this damn thing. So why the long face?

RUN_BMC and I made a last weekend decision to run this specific race for a couple of reasons, 1: it is always more enjoyable to use a race as a training run, I mean let’s be honest 4,000 people on the course with people cheering or running along a somewhat occupied trail … you figure it out, the 2nd: other awesome peeps of 9RUN6 were also doing it, so it gave us a chance to get out and support the pack of awesomeness that was about to take on the course that took runners from Land Park through Downtown Sacramento and back again.

So during the race, I noticed a couple of things … the thing that stood out the most was the unhappy runner face that a high percentage of runners had, not the I’m focused looked, but more of the I’m pissed at the world look… naw scratch that, it was more of the I HATE THIS SHIT look. While some runners had these looks on their faces, the people along the course supporting the event from volunteers to people cheering on the runners had nothing but smiles.

During this specific run Brian, aka Run BMC, and I opted to have some fun along the course while we dropped a fairly decent 1:37:59 for our long run pace. By fun along the course, I mean giving some of our friends like Derrick a sweaty hug during the race, while he was in his nice dry clothing. We stopped to take selfies and fist bump with the FitFam6 crew, who set up a #9RUN6 and #WeRunSocial cheer station along the course. We even stopped to take a selfie with the dude wearing the Harey Tortuga costume. Conversations with other runners even went down with guys like John Blue of Sacramento Running News (http://www.sacramentorunning.com), who by the way threw down a 1:30:xx along the course running a progression run.

this find of sums up the race!

I mean there are so many opportunities to smile, give high-fives, and thank the volunteers along the course and even thank the people who come out to cheer for random strangers like yourself and us! Remember we signed up for this so quit with the I HATE THIS SHIT look when you’re running a race.

My challenge to you … start having fun on your runs (even if your run isn’t going as planned) or find something else to do that will put a smile on your face when you’re doing it!
