When a pro athlete drops a verbal …

Most often we just post about our workouts on our Facebook wall or Twitter Feed, but when a professional athlete and Team Nuun sponsored athlete drops a verbal, we want to whole world to know about it!

So yesterday on the Twitter, we got this notice …

img_0847

Yes you read that correctly the first verbal drop on social media by a professional athlete. We welcome Derek Foran to the group even before he shows up, because we all know what actually happens if he doesn’t show up tomorrow morning … well we know what happens but he doesn’t hahaha … For his sake let’s make sure that he does set his alarm and finds his way to the corner of 10th&N Street or the West Steps … but based on his Tweet … he will be there at 5:30AM. Let the fun workout games begin!

So tomorrow the schedule is as follows …

5:30AM – 10th & N Street – Run Group for about 3 miles

6:00AM – 10th & N Street – Run Group for about 2 miles

6:25AM – Meet at West Steps – Destination Across the street to the Roundabout

Send Derek a Tweet, remind him to set his alarm for tomorrow morning …

You go to the gym bro?

You got the gym bro? – Brad 1.0

At 9RUN6, Wednesday mornings are saved for meeting at the corner of 10th & N and dumping the treadmill workouts, then over to the West Steps for some body weight exercises and skipping the gym.

Let’s be honest we all want those killer shoulders and triceps right … well here is the secret ingredient to getting that shredded bod … pick the right cards at our workouts. Yup cards that are flipped upside down can get your ripped if you draw the shoulder taps or push ups, but if you draw a shit ton of burpee cards then you might want to puke on yourself … however that might not be cool for some of the members apparently, some aren’t committed to doing the duty on yourself if you are pushing your limits … unless it is raining, then apparently it is completely okay to piss in your pants if it is raining during a race.

Confused about the paragraph above? Just ask Katie, Brad 1.0 or McRunner … They can catch you up in the conversation that took place this morning.

This morning we welcomed a new face … welcome to the group Lorine, she came by way of a newbie who came last friday … see new faces can recruit new people so can you! … invite your friends to come out.

A new tactic in recruiting

We are always looking at new ways to bring in some new people … I think we figured out the best solution on growing membership for 9RUN6. We are going to start kidnapping people that are familiar with the free fitness movement. Like the folks that have experienced November Project!

Today we did that, meet Ed in the video below … he is our newest member … it could be by choice or by being forced there. Next time you see Ed say hello. He came to 9RUN6 by way of Kansas …

Condition Proof

It could be dark, cold, rainy, windy, whatever other condition that happens this time of year in Sacramento, but yet we still pour that liquid awesome.

If you are training for a race, or something else keep in mind … RACE DAY DOESN’T CARE what the weather or the conditions were like on a Friday in October. Race day only cares if you did the work building into that event in December … errrr California International Marathon if that is what you are training for. For the group many of the peeps are getting ready for that event …

In case you aren’t training for a particular race or event, but just finished one, getting out and continuing a routine is important because you just worked hard for let’s say … ummmm Urban Cow or San Jose R’n’R … so don’t lose the base that was just built and created for the goal race you had.

The key here is putting the training off will catch up … you have to be condition proof, and it isn’t about just the weather, it has to do with everything else … like being fatigued, or not getting enough to eat the night before, or whatever conditions might pop up. Again RACE DAY DOESN’T CARE ABOUT A FRIDAY MORNING IN OCTOBER.

When race day comes around are you truly able to say “I trust my training, because I did the work” …

With it starting to be crunch time and mileage starting to build up for the marathon … come out and join us, we can help you get to where you want to be … WE WANT EVERYONE TO MAKE IT!

Looking for a reason to meet up with a group for a long run … how about tomorrow morning? 7AM at the Lake Natoma Fish Hatchery … Be there …

Recap: Skechers Demo Night

Last Friday (September 30), the crew and some new faces gathered at Yolo Brewing Company in West Sacramento for a Skechers Performance shoe demo night.

Folks arrived around 6PM, to check out the awesome shoes which folks were welcome to test out as well as other shoes which folks could preview for the upcoming 2017 line.

With the shoes in hand or on our feet to be exact … we headed out on a 2 mile run to test out the shoes … the 2 mile run actually turned into a 3.3 mile run … oops my bad …

After returning to Yolo folks got their grub on and toasted some pints … Who can turn down some delicious Mediterranean food truck group and some tasty Yolo Brew beer?

The crew was also treated to a surprise when everyone walked away with a new pair of Skechers, some sun glasses, safety lights, a gear bag, while others won some awesome prizes in the raffle walking away with a hoodie, shirt or generous discount card to purchase shoes online.

Words cannot really describe the awesome event … so take a moment to check out the photos below …

It’s Fall … Things to keep in mind …

So when the fall season comes around, that means more running … specifically in races … with that being said we want to give you some friendly reminders when race day and weekend come around …

  1. Enjoy the day and each moment it has to offer.
  2. Smile, especially at the finish line.
  3. Don’t be an asshole towards others, you are the one who signed up for it!
  4. Give High-5s! knuckle bumps or whatever comes your way.
  5. Say thank you to the volunteers and police officers along the course, they don’t have to be out there.
  6. Say hello to other runners.
  7. If you see someone struggling ask them if they need help.
  8. Don’t litter on the course.
  9. Be nice … yes it’s important not to be an asshole! See #3
  10. Look both ways before shooting a snot rocket.
  11. Celebrate your finish! You worked hard to get there.
  12. Accept the fact that race day, might not be your day. You might find yourself struggling or having a DNF (Did no finish) … It happens, don’t over think it, just plan for your next one.
  13. And most importantly … Don’t be an asshole on race day … see #3 and #9 as other reminders …

What other reminders did we leave off of the list? Share them in the comments below …

WTH happened?!?!?!

Okay, so today is one of those mornings that we never hopes happens again …

It is also one of those mornings that if someone had shitted in their running shorts, it would be totally acceptable. With nearly everyone in the crew racing this weekend in some sort of half marathon the numbers were lower, and we were okay with that.

So the morning started off with the normal 5:30 and 6:00am running groups. We changed the 5:30 route and ventured over the new 6th street bridge that heads towards Garden Highway, it has a decent climb to it and has an awesome view coming into Downtown Sacramento.

When the 6AM crew made it’s way to pick up McRunner, he made the usual route to the Tower Bridge then over to the Golden 1 Center. There, something really bad nearly happened to the group that showed up this morning.

While crossing the street on a green light for pedestrians, a car decided to drive and turn without using it’s blinker at a decent speed. The white SUV nearly clipped four of us as were in the crosswalk. It was enough to get the attention of the construction workers making their way to the Golden 1 Center. It also made us yell, WHAT THE FUCK! to the driver.

Usually runners say they almost got hit and the car was yards away, this morning we almost got plowed by the SUV that came within inches of us with their speed on the turn. The car didn’t stop until about 5 yards after passing us. The driver stopped opened it’s door and looked at us, asking “Is everyone okay?” … without even a response, the driver closed their car door and went on their way …

We joke about it now, but it could have been really bad. Each one of us said that is the closest to ever being hit by a car. This is a lesson learned that even with the safety gear of headlamps and crossing at the proper time, we still have to be completely aware of our environments.

After the non-sense of the driver and the what could have been really bad, we made our way to the International World Peace Rose Garden for our Destination Friday workout.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!

We also hope to see everyone tonight at the Shoes, Sips and Socialize. If you haven’t already RSVP’d please do so by visiting https://www.eventbrite.com/e/shoes-sips-and-socialize-tickets-28156752605

Screen Shot 2016-09-21 at 1.13.14 PM.png

We are excited to see our friends take the time to vote through the website and get our name out there. Hopefully this will help us attract some new members to the squad as well as encourage more folks to vote next year as we attempt to bring our “A-game” and take first place. Right now we are content with finishing third place in the voting as it is our first year in listing.

What is awesome is that we are the only completely FREE group in the voting. Help us out by sharing how awesome YOUR crew did in the voting … now we are legit, how about we get out and invite some folks to join the squad!
