The following post is contributed by Katie who blogs at The Wholehearted Runner.

Do you like running? Do you like running bling? Do you like running for an amazing cause?!

Are you in luck! The “Oh the Places you Will Go” virtual run is your opportunity to support children and adults with communication disorders!

Every May is designated as Better Hearing and Speech Month by the American Speech and Hearing Association. In the greater Sacramento area we celebrate this month by celebrating the accomplishments of children and adults with communication disorders and their families! Through fundraisers and generous donations of people just like you, we raise money to purchase tickets to a baseball game with the Sacramento River Cats! We provide tickets to these families and individuals who might not typically enjoy a ball game. For one night, their communication disabilities are not what makes them “different”, they are what make them unique and celebrated!

Additionally at this event we provide information to the community on speech, language and hearing services as well as educational material.

It is such a fantastic event! I hope you will join me in running the “Oh the Places You will Go” virtual run and help those with communication disorders realize, one of the many places they can go is to a ball game!

Plus you get this awesome bling!

Giveaway: Zensah Compression Sleeve Giveaway

zensah-neon-green-calf-sleeves-900x900_0.jpg

Our awesome friends over at Zensah are giving away a free pair of Compression Leg Sleeves. The giveaway starts on Monday March 28 and ends Friday April 1. It’s pretty simple to enter for a chance to win a pair of your own (keep reading and see below how to enter for a chance to win).

If you haven’t tried or own a pair of Zensah Compression Leg Sleeves here are some details about them:

  • Shin Splint Relief: The Zensah Compression Leg Sleeves were designed by professional athletic trainers to specifically target shin splints. The v-shaped chevron ribbing on the front of the sleeve provides the same relief as kinesiology tape without having to worry about being “taped up” by a trainer.  The compression in each pair of leg sleeves helps to stabilize muscles and prevent injuries. Whether suffering from shin splints due to running, playing basketball, or just everyday activities, Zensah Compression Leg Sleeves help to provide much needed relief.
  • Used by Athletes of All Levels:  From Olympic Athletes to novice runners, basketball players, fitness enthusiast, and more, the Zensah Compression Leg Sleeves are a favorite among athletes. The compression leg sleeves are made in the USA to ensure the best quality and that the sleeves will last.
  • Moisture Wicking and Ultimate Comfort:  The compression leg sleeves are moisture wicking, ensuring they stay dry and lightweight even during the toughest runs and workouts. The leg sleeves are made with innovative Zensah fabric, which is anti-odor and ultra-breathable. A seamless design means no irritating tags or seams to cause discomfort. The solid color sleeves are made of 90% Nylon, 10% Spandex (Heather Colored Sleeves are made of 49% Polyester/41% Nylon/10% Spandex) to ensure a perfect fit.
  • Improved Circulation and Faster Muscle Recovery: The compression in each pair of leg sleeves helps to improve venous return, increasing blood flow and circulation. This leads to faster muscle recovery time, as muscles receive more of the oxygenated blood they need to recover. Runners and all athletes are able to take their training to the next level.
  • Calf Support and Injury Prevention:  Micro-ribbing on the back of the leg sleeves provide calf support. Using the leg sleeves while running can reduce calf cramps and lessen fatigue. Pin-point compression provides targeted support where it is needed the most. The compression in the leg sleeves also helps to provide muscle stabilization, reducing micro tears and preventing injuries.

9RUN6 members love their Zensah compression leg sleeves as well, see what they say about theirs:

Zensah=Chafe free. During my long runs, compression sleeves keep my legs (calfs) fresh and prevent fatigue. They also help with recovery and are stylish. Since Zensah, my long runs have been stronger and recovery has been faster.

Idk I just love Zensah……

9RUN6 Homework!

Rarely do we assign homework, but when we do it typically is pretty easy or pretty awesome!

This one is pretty easy to do. Here is a step by step on your homework …

  1. log onto Facebook.
  2. Go to the 9RUN6 Facebook page.
  3. invite at least 5 people to like the Facebook page … you are not limited to 5 … I mean if you wanna invite 100 or 1,000 that would be cool too.

Project 30 … Let’s get there

Bring yourself back to the good old days of elementary school. Specifically when you had the opportunity to get out of the classroom and run the mile. Most classrooms had about 30 kids in your elementary class. The teacher would line everyone up for a “start” line and everyone would take off running. Some kids took off while others were towards the end, but in the end there was very little open space between each kid running, maybe a couple of yards and even some groups running alongside each other. The gap was minimal and everyone had someone to chase in front of them.

Now lets translate this to 9RUN6, if we get 30 people out to a single workout this is what it would look like. Little gaps between each person who comes out is the goal. This keeps the group together, competitive, but also leaves no one behind.

Currently we have about 15 regulars who come out to either a Wednesday or Friday. Now if everyone brought out 1 -2 people each on a regular basis we could achieve the goal of 30 people at each workout. Then once we get 30 regular faces out to these workouts, then we can talk about that 100 person verbal that I have made.

For the newbies … 100 people at one workout equates to me getting the 9RUN6 tattoo.

The #RESOLUTION to end them all

As a new year dawns so do the dreams of taking on a #RESOLUTION. Well we here at #9Run6 are happy to tell you that we have come up with the #RESOLUTION to end them all.

The physiology of running is an interesting thing. As we run, different muscles within the body are at work. Mostly these muscles are working in concert with one another, but sometimes a few of those muscles stray to work on a more private matter. Yes indeed, some of these muscles help relieve the pressure of gas build up during our runs.

As we may have all experienced the relief of gas during a run comes in many lengths of time, smell and sounds. But one thing is for certain; if you happen to be running with a partner or a group it can get awkward.

This is why we are challenging the rest of the #RunningWorld to our New Year’s #RESOULTION to end them all.

Its a simple rule to follow: If a person by chance relieves him/herself of the gas buildup, but does not acknowledge the act of doing so, then the act shall not be spoken of by the group/individuals present at the time of the act. If a person by chance relieves him/herself and makes mention prior to, during or after the act (Examples being: Oh my God, I feel like I am about to blow a hole through my compressions. Did someone just step on a duck? Who just sh@t themselves? The last two are examples of the theory of he/she who smelt it has dealt it.), then the group/individuals present at the time of the act may speak of the act in all of its glory.

Accept our challenge by making our #RESOLUTION to end them all your New Year’s #RESOLUTION. Now go forth, eat copious amounts of substances rich in fiber and spread the word of our #RESOLUTION.

Holiday Lights Run

IMG_6242Sometimes we gather on Thursday nights at 6:25PM at other locations like McKinley Park … oh wait the location isn’t somewhere new … we did that before when 9RUN6 all started back in 2014 …

6:25PM rolled around and BOOM, there was the group, rocking bright colors and blinking lights as we went on a approx 4 mile run around and through East Sacramento. The goal for the evening was a nice easy social run through the area known as the Fab-40s. We focused on the 40th streets between J Street and Folsom Blvd.

Here the lights for Christmas were amazing! We shared some laughs, enjoyed some lights and got fit doing it!

Come join us on our regular days of Wednesday and Friday at 6:25AM on the West Steps of the Capitol.

The day we honored a little boy named David…

Damn this group just keeps getting better. At 5:30a we were rolling 8 deep, at 6a 10 deep and kept it steady from there. That’s something special when there are 10 people willing to hang out in 30-something degree weather that early in the morning.

It was balls to the walls for our 6:25a workout at the West Steps of the Cap. The static was flowing and reps were doubled on each ping pong ball. Trash talking ensued as did the random f-bomb, providing the only source of proof when some poor sap pulled burpees. Either way the liquid awesome was flowing.

Speaking of which, a huge thanks to our friends @Nuun for providing us tons of great product to hand out @9Run6 each Wed and Fri. Today, after being a regular at our 6:25a workouts, Papa @FitFam6 was rewarded for the way he has stepped up and become a regular at the 6a portion of @9Run6. This Nuun is for you David!
