Hey where’s everyone at?

So today it was F’ing cold out for the 5:30AM, 6:00AM and 6:25AM groups at 9RUN6 … It actually never warmed up for the group. Nonetheless, the hard cores made out and got their workout on, on this fine Black Friday. You can say we were part of the #OptOutside movement for today.

The excuses started coming in on Thanksgiving evening as Alexia sent myself and Run BMC a text message saying she wouldn’t make it … Then at 5:32AM I sent Kevin a text, asking him where he as and if he was going to make it … mind you he only lives about 10 minutes away by car. He said the following …

Alexia providing her out for Friday morning

Without Alexia being there we figured out that our resident ogre aka Ethan wasn’t going to make it either. I honestly think that Alexia locks him up in some sort of cage when she cannot make it to a morning workout. There is a pattern of him not showing up when she isn’t there.

So with Katie making it out for the 6:00AM group along with BMC and I, we started to make our way out to the Tower Bridge where the group typically picks up McRuner … and to our surprise he wasn’t there either … WTF is going on here?!?!?!

At 6:25AM the group started the west steps workout and we saw miniature creature running around with a headlamp… come to find out it was 1/6th of the FitFam6 group … also known as David.

The workout for the morning was 100’s which involves 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 step-ups and 100 squats … the key to this workout is once you start an exercise you have to finish it before moving onto the next one. The brave and badasses for this morning knocked out the workout as the sun came up and it was time to start the rest of the day.

Throughout the day, we will be trolling social media sites to see who found a way to get up and go shopping but didn’t have the balls to get up and workout this morning … there will be various postings throughout the day giving these people delightful shout outs on the blog …

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving … now don’t forget to get your Winter Challenge Day 2 taken care of at some point today!

#NoExcuses

IMG_2818That’s what’s up! A call out went to many for this great Thanksgiving week, and many came out. IMG_2817

Today’s workout was the classic #PingPong ball work out and it was a little more entertaining that usual. @FitFam6 minus 2 were there this morning, and let’s just say that those kids are pure #GO#GO#GO!

It was a great day to burn some calories before the big day, but also great time getting the band back together. We’ll see everyone out at #RunToFeedTheHungry tomorrow and remember to come out on Friday for our #BlackFriday workout. Same time, same spot.

No Excuses Week … Get to the West Steps

no-excuses-largeOkay this week is when people travel … err come into Sacramento for the Thanksgiving holiday. This also means plenty of people have either Wednesday and or Friday off of work with the Thursday holiday. With this being said it, there is no excuse to miss a workout or both of them.

As your friends and family come in tackle the holiday eating with a couple of 9RUN6 workouts, so you can feel a little less guilty when you chow down on that grub!

In case you are unaware of when and where to meet up here is the info …

Every Wednesday and Friday at 6:25AM (running only groups also meet at 5:30AM & 6:00AM at the corner of 10th & N Street) in front of the West Steps of the Capitol, here is the address: California State Capitol , 1315 10th St, Sacramento, CA 95814 (West Steps are the steps facing the Tower Bridge).

For those of you planning on your Black Friday shopping, we want you to know that some of the 9RUN6 members will be trolling Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to call you out on Friday if you aren’t able to make the workout, complain that we meet up too early, yet are able to get your ass out of bed and go shopping at some ridiculous times of the day.

2015 Winter Streak Challenge

3Y6A1714

The challenge is really pretty simple, all you have to do is stick to it! Figure out some sort of activity that you want to streak with (push-ups, running, walking, anything active that involves exercise), set a minimum numerical value to that movement (1-mi, 10 reps, 1 minute hold, etc) and do it every day from November 26, 2014 through December 31, 2015. Try to have a streak that is different than one that you have already done or are currently in. If you are doing a running streak maybe select some sort of body weight exercise like push-ups or pull-ups, etc. You get the picture now make the pledge….

1) Use the photo above and caption it announcing your commitment to staying fit from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or your blog and use hashtag #9run6

2) Hold yourself accountable by making the goal realistic. Your streak can be whatever you want but it has to have a minimum (such as 1 mile a day or 10 burpess, 1 minute plank) of WHATEVER YOU WANT! It’s your streak we just want to help you during the holiday season!

3) Announce that you completed your activity each day on social media …. here you can even cut and paste the following: I just did (ran , cycled) _______ to complete my daily commitment for #9run6 Winter Challenge.

4) Have fun with it, you can even post your commitment in the comments section below and check in on others to see how they are doing.

This is all about having fun while supporting one another achieve individual goals. It isn’t a competition, no matter if you run 1 mile or 10 miles a day or do 100 burpees or 10 pushups, keeping yourself active is all that matters!

Make the pledge and join the fun!

So What’cha Want

IMG_2763So the group started of strong with the 5:30AM and the 6:00AM run only groups that meet at 10th & N Street … but when the hard stuff started at 6:25AM on the west steps of the Capitol, only the strong survived it and were ballsie enough to stay for workout.

Today’s strength workout was the 99 problems remix … yup 99 push ups, 99 sit ups , 99 squats, followed by some running … then adding on with the extended version of 100 step ups and 100 tricep dips … then it was all over BOOM.

It wasn’t anything too fancy today but we got the $hi7 done in the 30 minutes on the west steps for the strength workout.

What’s on tap for this weekend for you guys? Also can we get some commitments for next week? Leave it in the comments section below and get with us …

RO-SHAM-BURP

Thanksgiving and the races to celebrate the season are just around the corner, which means CIM is almost upon us. Still, there are some of us that push ourselves though the biting cold each Wednesday and Friday morning.

Besides the fact that it is dark and cold outside, we still keep showing and getting our work done with some fun. This morning was no different, with the exception that Christmas music should have been blasting this morning. The Breakfast Club was able to see the Christmas Tree at the State Capitol west steps go through a lighting test as we were off to put in some pre workout miles.

Let’s get to that workout shall we. Sorry, due to a dead battery there are no photos to show proof of the 43 people we had enjoying the morning with us.

Chris was gone so we decided to get some real work in this morning. RO-SHAM-BURP, or known as RO-SHAM-BO to many. Winners got an easier set of pushups, sit ups and squats, while losers did more. Draw, and well that’s where the Burpee made it’s appearance.

Plenty of belching this morning, and we want to share some more with the rest of you. Join us every Wednesday and Friday morning at the West Steps of the State Capitol. 5:30a and 6a for Breakfast Club and 6:25a for that good workout.

I’m Coming Home

Normally it would be this time of the week that you’d have Captain Rosemont, aka Chris pushing a blog post your way. Well this week is different as I, @Run_BMCrilly , the fastest Architect (licensed in California), am the one to be pushing this post out to all of you.

Today was a special day. I’ll tell you why, but first you should know the back story. A couple of weeks ago I blew out my ankle while not paying attention to my surroundings on a run. It was just after 6am on Capitol Ave in Sacramento, right by the Tower Bridge. I rolled my ankle into a tree well while attempting to get out of the way of an oncoming runner, but instead ate ____. I heard a snap and a pop. It did not sound good, did not feel good and later on did not look good. Did one person stay behind? No. Each person (except a couple that needed to lead the morning workout at 6:25a) walked the near mile down Capitol Ave with me. I later went to the doctor and after an X-ray discovered a horrid sprain and a small fracture. 2 weeks min o
ff my feet unless I felt good was the order.

At that moment, I didn’t cry but I can tell you I felt down. Really down. I run because it’s fun, I get to experience the built and natural environment, and I enjoy the friends I have made over the past year in doing so. To think that I could not enjoy something with these friends was a flashback to childhood and being grounded. Everyone else gets to play while I get to sit in my room.

Let’s make this clear for everyone. @9Run6 is free and you don’t have to show up if you don’t want. There’s no contractual obligation whereby you are forced to show up each week. Come and go as you please, but I challenge you to come for just a few weeks in a row and experience the friendships and our joy for fun, free, fitness.

Now on to the actual workout for today…

Well, coming home today was something special. The breakfast club set out at 5:30a to get our early miles in before meeting the rest of the group for 13 sets (pushup, leg raises and knees to chest). Pull a card card and complete the number of reps associate, but this was all face cards.  Pull a Joker and you were hosed. It meant double of your reps. Pull a joker and a suicide king and you were f’d, double burpees. Some of us were so f’d and  some weren’t even close. Either way we’re all better for it.

9RUN6 Gets Bottled!

12227620_623736521062303_4609785907446725783_n

So sometimes we can get excited when we walk into the local Whole Foods Market and see the 9RUN6 brew on the shelves in the beer section! Boom … today was one of those days …

The back story of the brew …

Back in January we collaborated with Yolo Brewing Company out of West Sacramento to deliver the <5% brew that is delicious after a workout or run. Over the last few months the brew masters over at Yolo have been putting the work in to make this masterpiece as awesome as possible.

While this was going down The Pony Express Marathon was working on promoting their 2016 May 1st Marathon in Sacramento. As part of a collaboration between the two parties, Yolo Brew is releasing a 4-part beer marathon relay series. The first of the beers in the series is none other than the 9RUN6 …

Check out the brew … this one was located at the Whole Foods Market on the corner of Arden and Eastern in the Carmichael area of town …

Sweet Cakes Brings Snacks

IMG_5444When 6:25AM on a Wednesday or a Friday rolls around sometimes you never know what is going to come about. Sometimes people come up the steps with different things … today on particular  we had a guy we call Cakes come up with a box of Teddy Grahams …

So this blog post is mostly about Cakes … how could we not? I mean check out these photos and video and I think these captures the moments better than any words can explain…

IMG_5440 IMG_5441 IMG_5443

and now the video …

Have a kick ass weekend!

OMG THEY KILLED KENNY …

IMG_5414

Okay no one really died, but we did have a new face show up to the workout this morning, who is named Kenny. After getting called out last week on the blog he did show up today. He even made the mistake of committing to next Wednesday’s workout.

The workout today involved a deck of cards and a game called WAR. Yup today’s folks went head to head in the workout with the cards deciding the number of reps. If you won in the round you did 10 push-ups, 10 squat jumps and 10 v-ups … if you lost then it was 20 of each. However, the catch was this … each consecutive lose added 5 more of each movement to your total … Poor Ethan aka the ogre of the group ended up totaling like 40 of each at one point.IMG_5432

Between each round a short run around a number of trees was incorporated. Kind of like this one ..

At the end of the workout we welcomed Kenny with “the tunnel”.
