Breathing Will Crush Your Brain

The truth is that someone actually came up to us and said that we are breathing wrong … after this person came up during the workout, I stopped listening to what he said except for the part where he said “breathing will crush your brain” … and holding your breathe will do what????

Anyways this morning was awesome with the number of folks showing up even just for a run starting at 5:30AM and 6AM at the corner of 10th & N Street. After the 3-5 miles that were thrown down, we then gathered at the West Steps like we normally do for another new workout that had to do with partners … yes, we love them partner workouts, that sometimes challenge us to get out of our comfort zone but also brings us closer together with those around us through motivation and encouragement. Never is it a competition but it does keep people like myself honest and accountable, when you have a partner to workout with 10 burpees is 10 burpees not 9 or 8 … it keeps us moving, and pushing us through a solid workout.

Today’s workout was another As Many Rounds As Possible … first in line was 10 burpees with a high-5 up top completed 10 times followed by a sprint to a tree that was flexing it’s biceps … then came 20 push-ups with a high-5, followed by a sprint … then 10 partner get ups each … followed by a sprint … then to close off the round 20 sit ups with a high-10 followed by a sprint … this was completed about 4-5 rounds by the groups this morning … everyone got their workout on and were complaining about how exhausting the workout was … this is a good thing, because we love being pushed and tested … not to mention held accountable by the folks around us!

Great job today everyone! Way to crush it!

It didn’t have to be this way …

Today’s workout was a rough one … challenging that no set of partners was able to finish off. However, today’s tough workout could have been avoided. We will blame Melanie for that one today. To be fair the newbie didn’t know that if you announce your birthday the day before a workout we make the workout around the number you are turning.

After the 5:30 and 6AM groups got their run on, the 6:25AM started on the west steps and moved onto the 15th Street of Capitol Park near the Rose Garden. Here we did another partner workout that was done a couple of weeks back.

The one that makes guys like Brad 1.o want to wear gloves for the workout, because shit gets done during this workout … The workout included some sprinting, push ups, plank jacks, lunges, squats, squat jumps, shoulder tap planks, traveling burpees, and other ridiculous movements.

With 7AM coming about, none of the groups were able to finish off the workout, though everyone busted their asses to get this one done.

Also if you haven’t seen the November Project segment on The Today Show, check it out. The dudes Brogan and Bojan who were influential in starting the FREE FITNESS MOVEMENT are really taking over the world. These two dudes are dear friends of mine and have influenced 9RUN6 in so many ways, because they are fucking AWESOME!

Damn, we awesome

The squad came out got some miles and busted our asses in another partner workout. The crew got in about 6 miles before the 6:25AM workout.

A couple of weeks ago this workout was labeled the DNF, because not one single group was able to finish it. A couple of groups got close, but close to finishing still means we didn’t finish even though we all busted our asses to try to get through the workout last time.

Today we took on the same workout, where one partner does one exercise to completion and the second partner does a different exercise until person A finishes theirs. Each round was completed 3 times before the partners moved onto the next round.

We had 2 groups finish the workout today, which was awesome! While everyone else came close each individual pushed themselves to get the most out of the 35 minute workout. One group got through the workout with about 3 minutes to spare and the other group that finished just got through it right before the 7AM time hit the clock.

Great job everyone! Way to tackle Wednesday morning and get shit done. Have a great rest of the day.

The funnest worst workout

We are sorry for bringing the heat to Sacramento! Yes, we at 9RUN6 brought the heat today at the workout. The workout isn’t easy by any means, but these badass peeps took on the challenge of some under and overs with a run.

A couple weeks back we did the same workout, but only did 3 sets … today we upped our game and did 5 sets as we worked out on the grounds of Cesar Chavez Park on J Street.

The workout looks like this …

Each set consisted of 10 under and overs, while the “resting” person was doing downward dog to a push up …

Folks did this and repeated until each person did their 5 sets.

Happy Friday everyone and kick ass this weekend in whatever you have going on.

Celebrating Global Running Day

We are runners. We have good runs and touch runs; on days and off days; weeks of incredible progress and weeks of falling behind schedule. But we will never have a bad run because there is no such thing. Every run is a blessing. Every single run is a blessing and a we are proud of every run we do – fast, slow, long, or unexpectedly short, simply because we did it!

Today we came out and celebrated with old friends and new friends by just running. Nothing fancy with a workout, but simply just running! The 5:30AM group, the 6:00AM, and 6:25AM groups all did something special today … we got out and run to share our passion for something we are all blessed to do.

The first two groups gathered at the 10th & N Street corner to start our group runs, where we ventured around downtown and Old Sacramento.

With the gathering of folks on the West Steps it was time to share the running through the 9RUN6 5k, nearly 3 full laps around the Capitol starting from the corner of 10th & N Street then moving around until the 3rd lap finishes at the West Steps. Some people raced and other just ran … yes, we just ran today, cheering one another on and creating a spirit tunnel for the runners to go through.

As we celebrate Global Running Day, remember why we run, it isn’t because we want to be other runners, but because we enjoy being active and the community in which we have become part of, the friendships we have built and the memories we create with each step and mile we complete on our runs.

Have a great day everyone and continue to be awesome today and every day we are blessed to go out for a run!

What is your best running memory? What got you to start running?

Come Celebrate Global Running Day with 9RUN6

GRD_logo.png

Tomorrow, June 1, 2016 is Global Running Day, where millions of people pledge to run miles as they share their passion for the sport and inspire others to get moving. It’s really simple just go out for a lap or for some miles it doesn’t matter, the whole idea is to be active on June 1. For those of you that think I might need some motivation to get up in the morning before the evening heat makes it’s presence felt in Sacramento, come join us for a group run. Join us for one, two or 3 of the groups that start as early as 5:30AM.

The schedule for tomorrow morning’s 9RUN6 Wednesday workout looks like this …

5:30AM – meet at 10th & N Street

6:00AM – meet at 10th & N Street

6:25AM – meet on the West Steps of the Capitol

Rather that our really heart pounding workouts typically done on Wednesday, tomorrow will be an all run only workout! We might mix in some sprints 🙂 it is Wednesday after all. But tomorrow our goal is to just get out and run and share our passion for running with others, there might some random high-5s thrown out as we celebrate with other runners around the downtown area.

Just be there!

Take it to the courts

We had a new face to the crew today, welcome Steven who blogs at Running Chose Me. He came in with the 5:30AM crew which rolled pretty deep to start the morning, we even saw Courtney, who had been out for a little while, but we were glad to see her this morning too! She is actually in the group photo! Rarely is she able to be at all three groups before of her work schedule.

The 6AM squad assembled at the corner of 10th & N Street, where we joined in with a couple of other awesome peeps including David of FitFam6.com, Cakes aka Ernesto and JK made an appearance … Yes, Judy was at the workout too!

After a couple of more miles the squad made our way from the West Steps over to Roosevelt Park, about 1/3 of a mile down 10th Street. There is where the action would all go down. Today’s workout was challenging but nothing too hard compared to our recent Wednesday workouts …

The workout was another as many rounds as possible workout for 20 minutes, which looked like this…

  • 10 Burpees
  • Out and back run
  • 20 push ups
  • Out and back run
  • 10 get ups
  • Out and back run
  • 20 sit ups
  • Out and back run

Each person did pushed themselves through as much as they could do. It’s all about doing what you can do, not what other people can do, while providing one another with a ton of support and cheering on.

During the workout there might have been some layups made or missed and some pull up jumpers that tended to fall short rather than in the hoop. I think Brad 1.0 even did his best Kareem Sky Hook at one point, I wish there was some video on this.

The idea of playing some 5v5 came about, but it actually never happened.

Everyone have a great weekend! Oh and don’t forget our next workout … Wednesday, June 1 is going to be an all running workout as we celebrate Global Running Day! So come and join us!

And Another One

So we came out again with a pretty aggressive workout today. The crew first showed up to the normal run only groups starting at 5:30AM, then again at 6AM at the corner of 10th & N Street. With the miles logged, the crew then gathered at 6:25AM for the Wednesday West Steps workout … Today was a hard one … I mean a really hard one … that’s what she said

For some reason we have started to enjoy workouts that are pretty tough that no one can complete them in the allotted 35 minutes. We kill all workouts at 7AM on the dot. If the workout isn’t completed, there is no overtime or extra work … it is what it is, and we are okay with not being able to finish it. There is some sort of thrill that takes place doing this.

Yes, the awesome 9RUN6 peeps love going into workouts knowing that we probably won’t be able to get all the way through it. It isn’t failing; it is rather busting our asses to work as fast and hard as possible to see how much of the workout we can get done.

The morning workout was a tag team workout again, where people partner up and do different exercises. Person A does one workout until completed, while Person B does another movement awaiting for A to finish their exercises. Today’s workout looked like this …

Person A Person B Sets
Run – 15 push ups – Run Back Plank jacks 3
Run out – walking lunge back 5 squats, 5 squat jumps repeated 2
Run out – traveling burpees back Plank shoulder taps 2
Run out – Run Back V-ups 3

The first round was pretty simple and completed fairly quickly, the second round took longer with the lunges but damn doing lunges for about 60 yards was a task! Then came round 3 … this one was really tough. A traveling burpee involves a normal burpee, but rather than jumping up, we jumped out … think broad jump … The fourth round became a race as groups that got there tried to race the clock to finish the workout, however not one group was able to get through all three sets. Some groups got really close, but today involved another DID NOT FINISH!

We did not finish, and F@#$ing LOVED IT! YES! Read it again, all got a DNF but LOVED THE CRAP OUT OF IT!

Have a good Wednesday everyone … you all crushed through a tough workout, but did more work than most people do in a weeks worth of workouts. BE F@#$ING PROUD OF YOURSELVES!

See all of you Friday AM for another destination Friday workout that will push you to your limits.

To The Playground

Everyone, yes including adults, need to play. So today after the 5:30 & 6am run groups, we made our way to a playground just .6 miles from the West Steps.

Once we got on over the park, we did an AMRAP workout today … AMRAP = As Many Rounds As Possible … The time was 15 minutes to get through as many rounds of 10 burpees with a box jump, 10 dips, 10 push ups, 10 pull ups (or hanging knees to chest) and 20 sit ups.

With the new tunes on the 9RUN6 playlist blasting, the crew was pushing hard through the workout. Most people got in anywhere from 3 full sets to nearly closing off 5 sets. The workout was a good one as everyone worked to their own individual level, with encouragement from other folks in the group.

After the 15 minute clock buzzed off, we headed back to the Capitol where everyone said their final words to one another before tackling the day.

Happy Friday and have a kick ass weekend everyone.

DAMN.THAT.WORKOUT.

So every now and then we like to challenge one another with our workouts … but DAMN! Today’s workout did just that and more …

Before the 6:25AM workout group, we did the normal 10th & N St meet ups, we even had a new face to the squad this morning joining us at 6AM. Welcome, Melanie to the group, she found us by Googling Sacramento rabbit hole or something like that … not really … but apparently it took her some time to find a free running group in Sacramento … then she found us …

Anyways, we did another partner based workout and it was challenging … we allot 35 minutes to the workout and this one would push the 35 minutes to see if any set of partners would actually be able to finish it. A couple of the groups got really close, but still couldn’t finish off the morning challenge.

The workout looked like this …

Partner A Partner B
20 Burpees & Sprint Out & Back Tree Sit
20 Squat Jumps & Sprint Out & Back Push Ups
20 Lunges Each Leg & Sprint Out & Back Jumping Jacks
20 Leg Lifts & Sprint Out & Back Plank

Each set of partners would complete the exercises three times before moving onto the next set. The out and back sprint was about 30 yards each way, but after crushing the legs, it seemed like the distance was a mile out.

When 7AM hit, the workout was OVER!

Scoreboard … WORKOUT 1 Groups finished 0 …

Nonetheless, everyone got their workout in and became stronger and fitter by getting their asses out of bed and made their way out to the west steps …

As the saying goes … Did Not Finish trumps Did Not Start … great job everyone and have a kick ass hump day.
