When 2 Brads Collide

IMG_7148

Sometimes we get people with the same name come through like Chris and Chris … When that happened one became known as his Twitter handle McRunner … Today we had 2 Brads at the workout … one was a newbie the other has been with us for a long time … So we temporarily named them as NB and OB … short for new Brad and old Brad.

We had a strong showing with our 5:30AM and 6:00AM groups … but were sad when Ethlexia (2 people Ethan and Alexia), Sarah and Rebeca left just before the 6:25AM west steps group. However, we were excited when a couple other faces joined us on the steps … so we lost a few but gained a couple more when the groups shifted from just running to the ping pong ball workout.

For those that haven’t had the luxury of doing the ping pong ball workout … we grab a ball by random, throw it down then grab another out of the air … each ball is marked with rep count and exercise … after each round we do a lap around the west lawn then repeat this … the workout goes for about 20 minutes …

When the ping pong ball workout is completed, we moved into our sprints which have been included in the Wednesday workout … the squad pushed hard leaving some people exhausted … just look at this photo of Brad …

Happy Wednesday everyone and keep it gangsta!

Getting Our Sprint On!

The 5:30 and 6:00 AM run only groups came through as normal and crushed their running as always. Then at 6:25AM the unknown always happens, the unknown of which workout will be pulled out of the bag on any given Wednesday.

For today we threw out one of the older workouts in the pile and did various movements from high-knees, jump ropes, push ups, sit ups, squats, lunges, jumping jacks, mountain climbers, oh and did I mentioned jump ropes … yeah we did a shit ton of jump ropes, but out jump ropes are without an actual rope … we like to pretend sometimes …

After that part of the workout was done, it was time to knock out some partner line drills … one person would go to the first line, get back then the second would go to that same line … until all five lines (created by the bricks on the West Side of the Capitol) were touched.

The workout pushed some to the limits like our boy Benny who actually showed up this morning as he was the last one to leave the steps after sitting down due to some wobbly legs. Some others felt the legs being a bit wobbly as seen by Katie in the group photo and even by Brad who decided to just lie down after the final sprint.

Good job everyone and have an awesome Wednesday!

#DesitinationFriday Steps on J

IMG_6958.JPG

Here we were again. It was the end of a work week with great weather upon us, and no signs of stragglers from St. Patrick day festivities the night prior. This Friday was no different than any other of our Friday mornings. At 5:30am a group of us met at the corner of 10th and N streets in front of the Capitol of one of the world’s largest economies, but without Kevin and Benny….

6:00am we met at the corner, but Kevin and Benny were still not there…

6:25am we made our way to our destination, the steps on J. For those of you in Sacramento unaware what the steps on J might be, there is a set of steps leading up to the second floor of the Sacramento Convention center which is located near the corner of 15th and J. A great spot for getting in some stair work, without Kevin and Benny.

Dice and cards were the weapons of choice for attacking our workout. One person rolls the dice, and we run the flight of stairs the number of times corresponding to the die (singular, not plural right?). After that we picked one card, and the corresponding number on the card represented the number of reps for pushups, sit-ups and squats. This went on for 30 minutes before we made our way back to the Capitol and all went our separate ways. If anyone was wondering, Kevin and Benny never showed up.

Meet us next Wednesday and Friday, same bat time and same bat channel.

I didn’t choose 9RUN6, 9RUN6 chose me

Yes we are referring to the famous words of Tupac … well he actually said:

I Didn’t Choose The Thug Life, The Thug Life Chose Me

We are primarily speaking of the enjoyment of the 9RUN6 as a group, from workouts to everything else that comes with 9RUN6. Many have become the closest of friends … I mean we have seen a 9RUN6 wedding … We have even witnessed the creation of a couple through 9RUN6 …

Anyways today was about Sparta and Sprints … we hauled ass after breaking down our legs and loved it! So the Sparta part of the workouts is as follows, and done as quickly as possible:

  • 50 jump squats
  • 50 push-ups
  • 50 leg lifts
  • 100 lunges
  • 50 tricep dips

Each exercise was followed by a run about 1/10 of a mile.

Once everyone was done it was partner sprints with a line drill style of increasing distances.

With the workout complete the peeps headed their different directions and started their days.

Another Wednesday with new faces

Another awesome Wednesday morning went down today … we had 2 new faces for the 6:25AM group, a new face at the 5:30AM group and a whole lot of paper, rock, scissors.

The excitement is building with Shamrock’n Half Marathon this weekend. This energy is carrying over into the workouts themselves, even by people who aren’t running the race this weekend. It takes a full group to make good things happen and this group is for sure making good things happen!

Back to today’s workout, we played a good few rounds of paper, rock, scissors with every 10 minutes changing the exercises. The first 10 minutes involved push-ups, sit ups and squats, the 2nd 10 included burpees, star jumps and lunges, while the 3rd and final 10 minutes were bear crawls, v-ups and knees to chest.

For the winners they only had to do 10 of each exercise, for the losers it was 20 … if you lost consecutively then it added 5 to the 20 … lost 3 in a row it was 30 and so forth …

See you Friday and hope everyone is having a kickass Wednesday!

Let’s do this

It’s Wednesday, so what else do we do? We tackle whatever workout is in front of us. Today some people started with the crew at 5:30, others at 6:00, and some at 6:25AM on the west steps.

Some came and went during the various workouts for whatever reason… Someone said something about having to build some plans for some school district being built, while others left early because of some work stuff that dealt with driving somewhere and others left because they nearly shatted on themselves.

For the running groups we pushed the paces pretty well and pretty consistent today. Then when 6:25AM rolled through it was time to knock out some 50 to 5 action. This mixed in some running, push-ups, sit ups, squats, and jumping jacks. The workout is pretty much like if a rhino humped a jaguar and they had a baby gazelle.

Today’s workout was awesome and only happens because awesome freaking people committed themselves to getting up and coming to workout without any fears of breaking a sweat or keeping up. Trust me, come out and you can really experience … In one word …. AWESOME!

9RUN6 Homework!

Rarely do we assign homework, but when we do it typically is pretty easy or pretty awesome!

This one is pretty easy to do. Here is a step by step on your homework …

  1. log onto Facebook.
  2. Go to the 9RUN6 Facebook page.
  3. invite at least 5 people to like the Facebook page … you are not limited to 5 … I mean if you wanna invite 100 or 1,000 that would be cool too.

Let’s throw dice

The crew came out strong again today, except we were missing one familiar face … If you happen to see Run BMC please return him to the west steps on Wednesday and Friday mornings.
The typical runs started off the morning with the two groups meeting at 5:30 and 6:00am. Though this morning we were treated with a revisit by a former regular who is going to be back in full force with us … Yup David is back!

With 6:25 rolling around it was time to throw down some dice … A new workout prop that had two groups throwing down dice to equal a certain workout and rep count.

For example throw a snake eyes (2 = 1 on each dice) and the group was treated to 200 jumping jacks. Each number had a various movement, most of them being legs so it was a treat to get push-ups or crunches. One group seemed to get plenty of mountain climbers while another group busted out plenty of star jumps. After each exercise was a short out and back run.

With 30 minutes of pouring liquid awesome and wobbly legs it was time to call it a day with this group of awesome individuals.

Have a kick ass Wednesday and see you all on Friday.

Project 30 … Let’s get there

Bring yourself back to the good old days of elementary school. Specifically when you had the opportunity to get out of the classroom and run the mile. Most classrooms had about 30 kids in your elementary class. The teacher would line everyone up for a “start” line and everyone would take off running. Some kids took off while others were towards the end, but in the end there was very little open space between each kid running, maybe a couple of yards and even some groups running alongside each other. The gap was minimal and everyone had someone to chase in front of them.

Now lets translate this to 9RUN6, if we get 30 people out to a single workout this is what it would look like. Little gaps between each person who comes out is the goal. This keeps the group together, competitive, but also leaves no one behind.

Currently we have about 15 regulars who come out to either a Wednesday or Friday. Now if everyone brought out 1 -2 people each on a regular basis we could achieve the goal of 30 people at each workout. Then once we get 30 regular faces out to these workouts, then we can talk about that 100 person verbal that I have made.

For the newbies … 100 people at one workout equates to me getting the 9RUN6 tattoo.

Hundosssss

Today we got together ran and were surrounded by awesome people.  The run groups started the morning off strong … I mean real strong … Then rolled the 6:25 group and that strong got taken to another level with today’s HUNDO workout …
What the f is a HUNDO workout? It’s 5 exercises of 100 reps each with a couple laps around the west lawn between each one.

Today’s movements were 100 push-ups, 100 sit ups, 100 step ups, 100 dips and 100 squats. The order didn’t matter. The only thing that did was if you started a movement you had to finish it off before moving to another one.

Special workout shout out today goes to our very own Shane Barker … Not because he didn’t show up, but because he left early … Why did he leave early? To go to 24 hour to get a workout in … So in tradition we talked about him after he left …. Bwhahaha. Hope you have thick skin Shane because you’ll be wearing this one for a while hahaha.
