The one Friday the 5k was smashed!

So today was the final 5k in the challenge that was thrown out to one of our awesome peeps Courtney. The challenge was to run a 5k two weeks back, that was set by some of her friends remotely in Las Vegas, then take a leave of absence from adult beverages then run another 5k two weeks later.

When we ran the first 5k a couple of weeks back, Courtney had a cold and just dropped her watch into the porcelain black hole, aka the toilet. So things weren’t the perfect conditions for her, but she still got through the 3 loops around the State Capitol. Her time for the 5k was about 28:xx.

Now fast forward to this morning, still no watch but using her strava on her phone like she did two weeks back, and still another cold on her. We toed the line on the corner of 10th & N Street. We headed out for the first loop covering the mile pretty quickly, mind you we stuck as a group to help Courtney get around the 5k. This is what the group is all about, it is helping others reach their goals while chasing our individuals goals at the same time.

The second loop then was about to go, which was a little slower, and this typically happens in most 5k races.

The 3rd loop was next and it was about just running this one out. Boom and there it was a 26:xx finishing time! Bettering her time by two minutes. Which is also a PR from her official time of 27:xx minutes! Perhaps it is time to sign up for a 5k!

On another note … there was an early exchange of text messages with McRunner, who informed us that he wasn’t going to make it. We know that he has another workout group of friends that he connects with, so we decided to call him out …

Have a great weekend everyone and crush it!

Wash your hands!

Today’s morning message was about hygiene! Yes people it is important, make sure to wash your hands all the time. If you are confused about today’s PSA, ask anyone who attended to the workout for more information.

With the non-rain and wind free morning, we had a chance to bring out some of our workout props … like cards. Because trust us when the wind is blowing, it is a cluster F@#$ chasing down playing cards during a workout, however that doesn’t count out doing a really awesome version of 52 card pick-up in the future.

The conversations are really awkward at times during the morning workouts, which always making coming out in the morning a blast along with getting your fair share of lunges, jumping jacks, squats, and burpees out of the way along with some running of course.

Everyone did a great job this morning and we hope that it carries with you through the rest of the day. Have a fantastic Wednesday and see you on Friday.

Weatherproof

Wind blowing, puddles on the ground and rain in our faces … we don’t care we still workout!

The squad this morning was small but nonetheless we still kicked the workout in the mouth with a 100 workout. 100 pushups. 100 sit ups. 100 squats. 100 leg lifts. 100 lunges. BOOM.

So while doing some Strava stalking I came across one of our workout faithfuls to see he didn’t join us but he still got a run in … That person would be Brad 1.0 … I thought maybe he slept in … nope not the case … his run according to Strava was at 5AM …

Glad to see him still get a run in on the treadmill, but in true 9RUN6 fashion we had to bust his balls …

Have a great weekend everyone!

Wet ground, so what

Wet ground don’t bother us! It might sprinkle, it might storm, but we still won’t stop showing up and grinding out a run and workout.

The crew did their thing with the 2 run groups (5:30 and 6am) and the west steps workout at 6:25AM. For the workout today, the ping pong balls relay game came out. We did something out of norm where we created team names for the two groups who relayed against one another. Team Sexy Beard was made up of team captain Brad, Adam and Chris. While Air Hump United was lead by McRunner, Katie and Melanie.

Yes, Melanie finally returned after her spell of coughing and recovery from 8 broken ribs from the coughing. Okay she really didn’t have 8 broken ribs from coughing so much, but it just makes her sound that more awesome than she is. Nonetheless, we welcomed her back with typical 9RUN6 fashion of a “hey, whats up” when she showed up at the corner of 10th & N Street for the 2nd group run.

Way to crush Wednesday morning everyone and STAY DRY! See you on Friday morning.

It was just a tad wet out

Rain, wind, dark … none of that stops the crew of being awesome. This morning we gathered with a little different route today, more so a different purpose to the 5:30AM group, where we hit a 5k to help one of our members Courtney get a base time for the the distance. She is working on improving her 5k time as part of a challenge with some of her remote friends in Las Vegas. So as a crew we looked to help her out a little today. For being kind to help Courtney with the run she rewarded each of us with a KIND bar …

The 3 loop course around the Capitol took us to 5k getting most people in around the 25 minute to 27 minute times. Some ran easy, some ran hard, some ran in between nonetheless the crew got it done.

After the 5:30 5k that was completed the crew did the routine run to pick up McRunner at the Tower Bridge then headed back to the West Steps to knock out the run / workout for today.

The workout for this morning were 10 sets of sprints with 10 push ups and 10 squats after each sprint.

With the workout crushed … everyone was on their way to run the rest of the day.

You could say it was a little cold

img_2017

It was pretty cold out this morning, one could say … but did that stop people from showing up? NOPE! The gang came together and tried to sweat it out … I say tried because it was so freaking cold it was tough to break a sweat, but some still were able to raise those body temperatures high enough for dribbles of sweat to break through.

As many of you know we are about helping each other reach goals or accomplish awesome things … so during the month of January we are going to do that for one of our peeps who is trying to better her 5k time through a challenge that was thrown out to her by some of friends in Las Vegas.

Next Wednesday, January 11, at the 5:30am run group time we will be doing a 5k at 5:30 followed by the regular other events we do at 9RUN6 at 6 and 6:25AM. The 5k will be loops around the Capitol until the 5k is completed. We have a 9RUN6 5k course, yes it was scientifically marked out with … nope not a wheel, but by someone running around with their Garmin. Okay it might not be an officially marked course but it is close enough to being one.

Great job to everyone who braved the cold weather today. Have a kick ass weekend and see you next week.

2017 … LIFT OFF!

img_2012

The first Wednesday workout of 2017 just went down! We are officially starting our 3rd year of pure awesome. The gathering of friends at O’Dark Thirty to get our run, sweat and conversation on.

Apparently the weather feared off some of our more consistent people that come to the workouts. It was a clear warning that weather wasn’t going to be good when our resident meteorologist didn’t show up this morning. Was this an indication that there was going to be a storm coming into the Downtown Sacramento area? To be honest this kind of worried us, but lucky for those that showed up it wasn’t the case.

Rumor had it that our recent award winner Brad, was already complaining yesterday at his workplace that the rain and wind was too bad and he didn’t want to chance his beard of getting wet, so that is the reason we are giving that he didn’t show up.

We did welcome a new face to the group today. Robin, who currently lives in Sacramento by way of the Bay Area joined us this morning. I don’t think we scared him off, since he seemed to be interested in joining us at another workout, however he did clearly let us know Friday probably wasn’t going to happen for him.

For the workout today we hit the 100 workout … 100 squats, 100 pushups, 100 step ups, 100 lunges and 100 dips. Oh … and don’t forget that today was Sprint It Out Wednesday … so of course we did our sprints!

Happy Wednesday all and stay dry!

Thank You #2016!

In a year where recent headlines curses 2016, we want to thank 2016. Not so much the year, but what happened in 2016. In reality a year is just a number, months are just months, but moments are what we make of them, and when it comes to 2016 9RUN6 had a lot of great fucking moments!

2016 brought a lot of people together! I mean just look at the photos above and see all the smiling faces in them. It brought together a group of new friends.

Here are some of our favorite moments of 2016 … In no particular order …

  1. Brad gets shitted on during a morning workout by a bird.
  2. All the new faces we saw come and go through our workouts.
  3. The beer mile fiasco, ie beer foaming from BMC’s nose.
  4. All the new marathoners! Brad, Steven, Ernesto, Alexia, Melanie … are we missing anyone?
  5. The Boston Qualifiers! Alexia and Kevin.
  6. All the Personal Best set this year! Too many to list individually.
  7. Anytime Ernesto showed up to a workout.ummm that Spandex though.
  8. Donuts at the workouts.
  9. Skechers Demo night … you get a free pair of shoes, you get a pair … everyone gets a free pair. Sucks for you if you didn’t show up.
  10. All the gear being tagged in 2016.

What were your favorite 2016 9RUN6 memories? List them in the comments section below.

Oh… and our 2016 award winners will be announced this weekend through social media so keep an eye out.

When you miss random strangers…

Okay, getting up for your first 9run6 workout is probably the hardest part of any of the workouts. Once you conquer that first wake up call, then it starts to get weird … yes kind of odd, most of you know what we are talking about here. It’s the weird feeling you get when miss some random strangers who you met at 9RUN6. Miss them so much where you know exactly where they are on the route at any given time, while you lay in bed you think, they are running over the bridge, or they are off to get McRunner, or I wonder what crazy ass workout they are doing on the west steps.

This is something we shared with Alex who came to this second workout this morning. These feels are also reiterated by Dave and Melanie who post on our page how they miss us.

Again we were just some people who ran around downtown and did some crazy workouts along the west steps, and now have created some strong ties.

Incase you were trying to sort out what crazy ass workout we did today. In keeping with tradition for the Wednesday before Christmas we did the 12 days of Christmas workout, aka the Thanks Katie workout. This workout consisted of 1 rep building up to 12 reps than back down … so like a pyramid … each exercise was different and overall was challenging, but everyone kicked Wednesday morning in the ass!

Great job everyone! If we don’t see you on Friday. Have a great Christmas weekend.

Until next time, Good Luck Kaila

This morning the run crews did their thing before the destination Friday workout at the Sacramento Convention Center. Today we said until next time to someone who joined us back in February. Kaila came into the crew after having attended at November Project workout in San Francisco, after finding her way to us here in Sacramento we are glad that she stuck with it.

Through the course of the year, she caught the half marathon bug, trained and completed the Urban Cow Half Marathon back in October where many of the 9RUN6 folks ran it, and found some successful finishing times.

Though we hate seeing people move out of the area and leaving the group, we do enjoy the fact that we get to celebrate people’s goals with them. For Kaila she is moving to the Bay Area where she will be working in marketing for Safeway and other related companies under their umbrella.

We hope she can give us free Safeway points for our member cards 🙂 …

Kaila we will miss your handstand ability and the ability to make us all feel like we are doing V-Ups completely wrong due to our lack of flexibility that your gymnast background possesses.

We wish you the best of luck in all of your future endeavors and hope to see you whenever you get back to visit Sacramento.
